My Swan
Included in The Swan Series.
Circa, 1978 – 2010.
My Swan holds special significance as the first edition I printed and personally signed and numbered, serving as a tribute and salute to my earliest works. Over the years it has become the most coveted image in my collection, and one of my proudest moments came in 2006 when the legendary Abstract Expressionism and Neo-Dada artist Robert Rauschenberg, whose rise to fame paralleled that of his friend Pop Artist Andy Warhol, added a limited-edition print of My Swan to his private collection.
As mentioned, this was my first edition printed and released, the one I proudly imagined hanging on a collector’s wall. At the time, I was playing the part of a full-blown novice and apparently felt the need to prove it during the editioning process. When it came time to number the prints offered, I confidently began the 24×36 edition at 1/250. In my enthusiasm, I skipped right past the twenty prints that I now sensibly limit that size to throughout my collection. You could say I was feeling… ahhh, slightly optimistic. Strangely enough, I’ve already surpassed the number of prints I would normally allot to release at this size, so perhaps my beginner’s overconfidence wasn’t entirely misguided after all. Maybe it's like I already wrote… this image is special.
Luckily, collectors seem to appreciate optimism.
